Sofía Natalia was born from a very specific frustration.

Sofia wanted a bikini that was beautiful, vibrant, well made, and genuinely sustainable. What she found, every time, was a version of the same compromise, fun and colourful but not sustainable, sustainable but beige, well made but utterly boring. We built what we couldn't find. We exist so you wouldn’t need to compromise.

The founder

Sofia Deniz Pihlaja is not a fashion industry insider. She's a problem solver, a film and television producer who has spent her career making complex things happen across Mexico, Canada, France, Finland, and beyond.

Travelling and working across more than 50 countries sharpened something in her: an eye for quality, and a quiet understanding that things made well simply last longer and look better doing it. That observation became the seed of Sofía Natalia, forming slowly over many years.

In 2020 she began researching in earnest, focused specifically on swimwear, something intimate, personal, and worth getting right. She found an exciting emerging landscape of sustainable brands, but none that had everything. The style was missing, or the quality, or the materials weren't what they claimed to be. She kept looking until she found what she needed, then built the rest herself.

we believe

Sustainability doesn't have to be beige. It can be colourful, sensual, and deeply considered. We have never accepted that caring about the planet means toning yourself down.

We also believe that a woman blossoms after 40, she has the confidence, identity, and standards honed by life and her perspective. She knows what she wants and she's done apologising for it. That is exactly who we design for.

Every Sofía Natalia piece is designed in Barcelona and crafted by local artisans, from fabrics sourced in Spain and Italy. We know every step of how our swimwear is made, who cuts it, who sews it, where the fabric comes from. We've reviewed every detail, down to the interior cups, which we offer as an option rather than a default to avoid unnecessary waste.
